Holy Land and Rome, May 2016

Deacon Jubilee Pilgrimage FlyerIn May I will be joining Permanent Deacons and their families and friends from around the world to answer our Holy Father’s call to come to Rome in May for the Jubilee Year of Mercy celebration.

Here is more information on the Jubilee Year of Mercy in general and the Jubilee for Deacons in particular.

I would like to extend an invitation to you to come with me on this trip, which is being organized by Deacon Bob Steighner of my former parish, Our Lady of the Assumption in Claremont.

We will be traveling to the Holy Land, Rome, Assisi, Florence, and Venice. In Rome, we will take part in special ceremonies at the Church of St. Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr, as well as the Basilica of St. Peter’s with Pope Francis. A detailed itinerary and full registration information is here at the Proximo Travel website.

Note that the deadline has been extended to the first of February, so do not delay!

Registration should be made directly to Proximo Travel, and full information is here. The total cost is $4900 for 15 days, May 20 to June 3.

My personal involvement with the permanent deacon program in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles goes back to its very beginning in the early 1970s. Cardinal Timothy Manning asked me to work with Fathers Peter Healy and Newman Eberhardt on the formation team as director of liturgy. I served on the program for more than ten years, until it was reorganized in the mid 1980s. At that time, I was the youngest member the program, and I think I may now be the sole survivor among the original “founders” from those early days.

I couldn’t be more proud and happy to be coming with our deacons on this journey of mercy and service, and I’m happy for the opportunity to invite you as my friends to come on this wonderful Pilgrimage.

Go directly to the website of the Proximo Travel for detailed registration information before February 1!

Thanks and God bless you always. I love you.
